The One With the Labor Pains

Talking to Husby in the morning:

Husby: So did you have any of those crotch-tractions last night?

H.I.T., inbetween hysterical giggles: What?!?!

Husby: You know, crotch-tractions??

H.I.T., still laughing hysterically: You mean, con-tractions?

Husby: Yeah, that's what I said...

H.I.T.: Oh hun.

Bed Rest

I know this isn’t what you were expecting - nursery photos will be later this week - but thought I would give you all an update on what’s been going on...

That is to say, labor.

Yep, a whole 5 weeks early.

Fortunately, we were able to stop it...for now. The doctor is hoping that we’ll at least be able to keep it off until gestation is 36 weeks, that way we can keep Baby V out of NICU. So for the next six days, I’m on medication to, hopefully, keep me from going into labor again.

After the time is up, I might go back into labor, I might not. My body might wait until I’m at 41 weeks to try again.

No one knows.

What we do know is that Baby V and mommy are both doing fine. The medication is keeping my blood pressure under control and Baby V is performing beautifully in all tests. We also know that Baby V is pretty much in position at this point, with her head very low.

And finally, we know that the next time I go into labor, they won’t try to stop it, no matter how far along I am.

So until then, I’m on bed rest. I’m getting plenty of sleep and relaxation, and we have the best family and in-laws providing us with plenty of support and help in finishing up the preparations for our little arrival.

But in the mean time, if you could please send up a little prayer, we’d really appreciate the help.

See, as excited as we are to meet our little one, we’d really like to keep Baby V inside just a wee bit longer so her lungs have more time to develop. Another week and a half would be just perfect.

Wishing everyone an uneventful and beautiful week.

Please Excuse My Absence...

And utter lack of blogging. I'm so behind on blog reading, it's ridiculous.

For the next two weeks, I have family in town for baby shower mania, so I'll be around even less if that's even possible.

To make up for it, I've decided to post a nursery picture...

Next week.

Sorry folks, I need something to keep you coming back during this lameness!

Oh, and did I mention that one of the showers is for couples? That's right, Husby will be there right by my side.

Now that should be funny...

Mommy Instincts

My sister and mom are in town this week for my baby shower. I haven’t seen them in several weeks, so it’s been a real treat to spend time with them.

Yesterday, we were all talking:

H.I.T.: So Husby and I think Baby H.I.T. is going to make an early appearance.

Mom: Really? What makes you think that?

H.I.T.: I don’t know. I just have a feeling.

Sister: Welcome to the last trimester. It’s all par for the course.

H.I.T.: Well, I've been experiencing some pre-labor contractions and my back has really been bothering me...

Sister: Trust me. You'll be fine.

Today I had my doctor’s appointment. I told him some of the things I’ve been feeling. His response?

Let’s do a pelvic exam.

Sure enough, I’m a centimeter dilated. I spent the day at the hospital while they monitored my condition and Baby H.I.T.'s. After passing with flying colors, we were admitted home under one condition.

REST.

No more exercise, running errands or doing anything that might cause me to further dilate and go into labor early. And, I was able to say my absolute favorite thing to my sister.

I told you so.

There are some things a mother just knows.

p.s. Just to reiterate, baby and mommy are doing just fine. All we need is rest. Lots and lots of rest. That is all. Baby H.I.T. performed beautifully in all tests performed today.

Wardrobe Malfunction

This weekend, Husby and I went out to dinner with his parents.

It was raining outside, so we picked a small, local restaurant - the kind where everyone knows your name (or at least the hostess and the most amazingly friendly server do).

When we walked inside, we exchanged our hellos and walked to our table.

Then it happened...

As if in slow motion, my legs kicked backwards, dragging my now massive frame towards the floor.

The entire restaurant stared in absolute horror, while I stared at Husby, who was desperately trying to save me.

Finally, I hit the floor.

The only thing bruised was my ego.

So much for wearing heels past the 8 month.

Wardrobe FAIL.

Motherhood Prep

Now that I’m in the homestretch, I noticed my body is busy preparing me for motherhood:

  • I wake up multiple times each night. Sleep is a thing of the past. Get used to it.
  • The sun is my wake-up call. Soon it will be a crying baby. Enjoy it while you can.
  • Putting on socks is like competing in a triathlon. You’ll have no time for trifle things like socks, silly woman.
  • I’m only comfortable in elastic waist pants - like leggings and yoga pants. Welcome to the world of Mommy Fashion. Say hello to clogs and crocs.

I’m sure it’ll only be a matter of time before my body starts craving exercise instead of chocolate...right?  Sure...when pigs fly over the moon. Welcome to motherhood darling.

p.s. I promise, in the name of all things holy my blog, that I will not now, or ever, wear crocs or clogs...unless they're part of a Halloween costume...or if I'm really old and my foot won't fit into anything else...or if I'm at a spa and all they offer are croc sandals...you get the picture :).

The One With the Spring Snack

On the phone with Husby:

Husby: We just had a spring snack on the desk.

H.I.T.: What’s that?

Husby: Chipwiches.

H.I.T.: Why would you do that?

Husby: It’s ice cream. Everyone on the desk got one.

H.I.T.: Why on earth would you tell your food-craving addicted, pregnant wife about a delicious ice cream treat that she can’t have unless you are planning on bringing a box home for dessert?

Husby: But they’d melt on the train...

H.I.T.: That’s just cruel and unusual punishment.

Cupcakes

You know when you wake up and the heat isn’t working, so you’re freezing?

You get a phone call from the appliance company telling you they forgot to charge you $60 for an installation fee?

You just finish putting your clean coffee machine back together only to spill milk all over the counter, so you have to clean it again?

You walk outside to put the garbage cans away only to notice that the garbage truck finally managed to loosen the gravel at the front of your driveway, and now it’s sitting nicely all over your lawn?

All before 9 a.m.?

I think it’s a cupcakes for breakfast kind of day.

Anxiously Awaiting Spring

No matter how much snow you bring our way, Mother Nature, you can't stop me from celebrating spring a bit early with daisies. Only 17 days of winter left...
