She Keeps Passing Me By

You know when you blink and life happens?

That’s what it feels like around here.

I keep blinking and life is busy passing us by. It’s amazing all the things that have taken place in the last week alone.

Thanksgiving was a hot, albeit, delicious, mess.
Ok, maybe I was the mess since I drank a little too much champagne...
I admit to nothing other than good cooking.
Thanksgiving was a day of thanks for all the many glorious things in our lives.
On Friday, we cut down our tree.

Saturday, we took down the decorations and I went to town. Decorating, that is. Later that night, I hit the town with my sister. And by hitting the town, I mean we headed to a 7 pm movie so we could call popcorn dinner and laughed our faces off watching the final installment of Breaking Dawn.

On a side note, did anyone else notice that glitter fabulous sex scene?! Really, I had no idea the bedroom could make sparkles and unicorns come to life. Apparently it can if you’re a vampire...

Sunday we trimmed the tree making it look "boo-tee-ful." Thanks hunny, wrong holiday. "Ho-Ho-Ho! Jingle bells." You got it!

And on Monday, we put the house on the market.

Yep, you heard me.

We’re going to see where it takes us...definitely NOT out of the burbs though. We love it here. Even if it does mean dealing with snot face moms from time to time.

As for the pending playdate, I decided NOT to talk to her.

Here’s why: she’s not a close or even kinda friend - she was a potential friend. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that MAYBE it was too much - the holidays, traveling, making new friends since moving to town, etc. So at the playdate, made it like we were meeting for the second time (kinda true). It went well, she was perfectly cordial to me in front of the other woman, but she kept competing in conversation.

Your sitter is good? Mine is great. You have a good pie recipe? I have a great menu for any holiday you’d like. Your sitter needs 1 month notice? Mine needs a year. No, seriously, a full year.

I was never one to play keeping up with the Jones’, so when we said our goodbyes and she ignored me, I didn’t care.

After all, you can’t be friends with everyone.

How was the start of your holiday season?

The One With the Closet

Last weekend...

H.I.T.: Hey Husby, I'm going shopping.

Husby: Why? Your closet is full of don't need anymore.

H.I.T.: Ok, fine.

Later that day...

H.I.T.: Hey Husby, I'm going shopping.

Husby: I thought we went over this already.

H.I.T. We did, so I cleaned out my closet. Bye!

Holy Snotface Mom Batman

When Babes was born, I joined a Mom's group. Life was great...except all my friends lived about 25 minutes south of me. Then, Buddy came along and being on rest prevented me from maintaining those long distance friendships.

Everyone said not to worry, once the kids started preschool I would make new friends. But what happens when the mom's at preschool aren't your cup of tea?

Early this year, I reached out to a new parent whose daughter was in Babes class. They had just moved to the Burbs and I thought it would be nice to hang out while the girls played. It went great and we scheduled another playdate. Her child got sick, so we rescheduled - she said she was phobic about illness and hated when the kids caught cold. So when Buddy got sick right before our rescheduled date, I cancelled out of politeness.

I'm one of those, they're going to get sick anyway, type of parents. As long as your child isn't vomiting or have a fever, I'm perfectly fine letting either child play with your runny nose, coughing child. Half the time, it's not something they can catch anyway. But since she made her thoughts on it known, I was trying to be respectful.

Well I must have done something wrong, because holy Snotface Mom Batman!

We ran into each other about 3 times this past week and I got the cold shoulder to the extent that once, I was intentionally left out of a conversation - she turned her back on me to begin a new conversation. I thought maybe I was being silly, reading into things, so I responded to a note she sent with a question about the upcoming holiday. Instead of starting a dialogue, she ended it by answering in the shortest form possible. I've never received a curter e-mail or response. Seriously.

And to top it off, I'm now going to a playdate that someone else is planning and it's just me, this new woman, and Holy Snotface Mom. Maybe she just had a bad couple of weeks, but I think it's more.

I don't want to create any awkward moments during this playdate, but I think this woman has no idea how to be politely mean to someone. I mean, come on, turning your back on me?!

So, help! How do I handle this new situation?

The One With the Car

Driving Babes to preschool:

Babes: Mommy, your car is dirty.

H.I.T.: Thank you for telling me, Babes. Mommy will get it washed after the storm.

Babes: Please get a car wash while I'm in school, Mommy. Pleeeaaassseee.

Not even 3 years old and I'm already embarrassing her.
